In this study, we explore how homeostasis-driven vascular growth and remodelling modulate stress distributions in atherosclerotic carotid arteries. We extended our computational framework to a cohort of 18 patients, integrating patient-specific geometries and tissue compositions reconstructed from clinical imaging.
Results show that homeostatic remodelling generally reduces and homogenizes wall stresses, though its effectiveness strongly depends on plaque morphology and composition: highly calcified regions limit adaptation, while matrix-rich areas promote more balanced stress redistribution.
A step forward toward truly personalized biomechanics for assessing plaque vulnerability and supporting clinical decision-making.
